FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What's your teaching style?
I have a relaxed style of teaching, responding to individual learners' language needs and preferred ways of learning.
With a patient, easygoing conversational style, I nurture my students' growth, teaching them with
kindness, praise, some gentle prompting, and always with plenty of encouragement.
We have many wonderful regional accents in the UK, however, I have a neutral British English accent.
I speak clearly and at a speed that matches your skill-level to aid your understanding.
I keep our lessons fun and engaging so that you feel relaxed and at ease.
The more you speak and practise with me, the quicker you'll gain self-belief and recognise your English is improving – and so the more your confidence will grow.
What's your teaching experience?
I work part-time as an International Tutor for a local College of Further Education, teaching 'General English', 'Business English' and 'English for Healthcare' to students from East Asia, online and in the classroom.
But my teaching experience covers a variety of settings, including teaching English to Primary school children in France, plus hundreds of conversational English lessons delivered online to learners around the world.
What are your qualifications?
I have a University degree in French and Spanish, so I understand the challenges of learning a new language.
I'm a TEFL qualified English tutor with 200 hours accreditation in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), so I understand the difficulties that the English language presents.
I am an IELTS coach with certification in IELTS coaching, so I understand the requirements for each Band.
I was born and raised in the UK, but I have also lived abroad; so I understand there are certain challenges when moving to a new country, trying to communicate effectively whilst adapting to new cultures and social norms.
What do you offer?
I adapt to your individual learning goals, and teach you online, through a personalised programme or a series of lessons:
I teach via tailor-made English programmes for both Business and Healthcare.
You let me know your requirements, and I then create the programme for your specific needs.
Otherwise, I teach on an individual basis, where you book sessions for as long as you need, until you feel you've reached your particular goal.
Business & Healthcare
My experience in Sales and Customer Service, together with my experience as a qualified Nurse, enables me to hone your specific English-speaking skills for Business and Healthcare, where clear, confident, accurate and sensitive communication is absolutely essential.
I appreciate that your delivery of a presentation could make or break a business deal.
Equally, your inappropriate choice of words or poor intonation, could have a damaging
effect on your relationship with your patient, or on the patient's compliance with treatment.
IELTS
I offer you the opportunity to practise your English-speaking skills for the IELTS test:
I help you improve your fluency, coherency, your intonation, and accuracy; I can help you develop your grammatical range, as well as offer you guidance on how to expand your vocabulary
and use idiomatic language appropriately.
The IELTS is an international standardised test for English language proficiency, and many non-native English language speakers need to achieve a certain band score for their University placement or to secure a new job.
I know this can be a stressful time, so I provide practical guidance
on how to handle the nerves and manage any feelings of anxiety.
Interviews & Presentations
I also offer guidance and support to help you with your interview technique and delivery of presentations.
I pose typical interview questions to you in English and allow you time to practise your answers, with the provision of immediate feedback to help you learn in real time, so that you can improve for the real interview.
Likewise, I listen to your presentations and offer constructive feedback on your pronunciation and intonation, on your phrasing and choice of vocabulary; I also suggest ways to ensure your audience fully understands your message and remains engaged during the delivery of your presentation.
So are you ready?
If you'd like to build up more colloquial expressions for the workplace, or you want to understand English subtleties for Business purposes;
or if you'd like to foster better relationships and sound more natural when speaking English to your patients;
or if you need to prepare for a job interview, a promotion, travelling abroad, or a move to the UK...
whatever your reasons for needing to speak better English,
I will gladly help and support you to
reach your goals.
